Quote of the Week
"The glittering prizes in life come more to those who persevere despite setback and disappointment then they do the exceptionally gifted who, with the confidence of the talents bestowed upon them often pursue the tasks leading to success with less determination"

Former Brookline player Jeff Adrien named to first team Big East Team. Story here
March 4th
Jeff Adrien to grace the cover of upcoming SI issue in preparation for NCAA Tourney. Posing with basketball in hand yesterday at Gempel Pavillion, the SI photographer was meticulous in getting all the lint off of his blue UConn road uniform. Unlike the last high school photo shoot that Adrien posed for, he did not pull his rinkled game jersey out of his gym bag. Sports Illustrated plans on posting Jeff in one of the sections of the cover along with other impact players from around the country. "It's not GQ," Adrien lamented, "but it will have to do this time."

December 21st
The Brookline Warriors overcame a poor first half effort and rode a defensive second half resurgence to beat Milton, 58-45. In what looked like a sleep walk at times, BHS dug themselves a small hole by being outhustled to loose balls, rebounds, and second shots. The one bright spot in the half was Jose Oviedo(18 points, 7 rebounds) who kept the team in it offensively, going into intermission down just 4 points, at 28-24.
"Not only did we stink the first half, we stunk in warm-ups. . .if that's possible." Fiedor commented. "If I could figure out how to keep adolescents motivated at all times, I'd write a best selling book and retire. We did not commit to 32 minutes of basketball today, but we did get 16 and that was enough."
Coming out of the locker room with a new focus the second half, the Warriors took the lead three minutes into the 3rd and never looked back. Drew Levey(12 points, 4 assists) joined Oviedo in igniting some free flowing offense with some nice passing and baskets, and the BLine full court pressure started to wear on Milton.
"Our press and half court man defense was outstanding in the 3rd quarter. We were ball hawking everything and in hot pursuit of loose balls and deflections. We also took control of the boards. The bench was fantastic(11 players rotating) and once again we had great communication, not missing man assignments and playing the type of defense that Brookline teams have made a rep out of."
With the second half surge complete and Jason Harris's free throws sealing the victory, the Warriors head off to Nauset HS for the Holiday Tournament next Thursday at 7:30.
December 18th
Warriors press the life out of Wildcats, 64-36. With a rotation of 11 players and full court press the entire 32 minutes, the Brookline Warriors wore out Weymouth tonight at the Schluntz. The team was boosted by the play of Marcus Jones at point guard, having to step up for the foul ridden floor general Jason Harris. "Marcus played like a veteran today in a role he has not always felt comfortable with." Fiedor stated. "His decision making was one of the key positive aspects of the game tonight." Jones led the team with 4 steals, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists, as well as being the high scorer for both teams with 14 points. Brookline went into the half up 26-20.
Besides the defensive pressure, another area where the Warriors clearly went to work was on the glass. "Weymouth is a fantastic offensive rebounding team. We came to play in that area tonight. We played like tough Brookline kids. . .is that an actual category or people?? If it wasn't. . .it is now!"
It was clear from the opening tip that Brookline had rebounding in mind as numerous players hit the glass, led by Jose Oviedo(9 rebounds), Drew Levey( 6 rebounds 4 assists), Jordan Rogers(6 rebounds), Kyle Hunte(5 rebounds), and Matt Shuman(4 rebounds).
With a 9 point lead and 2 seconds remaining in the third quarter, David Einhorn lofted a contested 21 footer that drew nothing but net. The shot seemed to incite an emotional riot on the Brookline bench as they carried their intensity onto the defensive side of the ball into the fourth quarter. The press, at one point, caused 4 straight turnovers, leading to layups and a growing lead.
"We feel as though we are in phenomenal condition. The players know they are being worked hard at practice. We also think we have some depth. I think the fresh legs and the bench where key factors tonight in the win. I also think Kyle Hunte gave us a huge lift in the intensity department." Brookline is back in action against Milton this Thursday, at Schluntz.
December 18th
Brookline Warriors opened the season at Newton North on Friday, dropping the contest, 62-50. Starting off slowly, Brookline battled back from an 8-0 deficit to tie the game at 15 at the end of the 1st quarter. Newton surged to a 6 point halftime lead at 30-24 as the Warriors had trouble getting into an offensive rhythm. The second half was more of the same as Newton maintained a 4-10 point advantage that Brookline could not seem to break through.
"We had a couple moments where we had a momentum shift because of our press and some nice defensive work." Fiedor commented. "The problem there was we didn't take advantage." On the night, the Warriors were 7-18 from the free throw line and turned the ball over 17 times. "We need to clean up our turnovers and shoot our free throws and shots with confidence. The kids have the ability to be very efficient in those areas."
December 16th
Brookline Warriors have their first home game of the 07-08 season this Tuesday(12/18), vs Weymouth. Tip-off is at 6:45pm at Schluntz.
