12/28/09 - Everett vs. Brookline
by Administrator on Monday 28 December 2009
Brookline surged out to a 17-6 lead by the end of the first, but horrific free throw performance and poor overall shooting allowed Everett to take the win 40-37. Carried by the offensive prowess of Jacob Page(21 points), the Warriors went into halftime up 21-15. Brookline looked for some offensive life from Bryson Rainey(6 pts), but it wasn't near enough as no other player scored more than 4 points. "We started just like we planned, running and then being patient if we didn't have the initial look," Coach Fiedor commented. "Our defense tonight was very good, but Jacob Page can't carry the team, and not making free throws in the middle of the game lost the game for us." Coach was referring to the woeful 2-14 ft shooting until the last 2 minutes of the game. The misses stopped the Warriors from getting the press going, a very effective tool early in the game. Down 39-30 with 2 minutes remaining, the Warriors made 4 straight free throws, caused two turnovers in the press, and hit a three bomb from Page to cut the lead to 39-37, with 30 seconds on the clock. Two open looks by Rainey failed to fall and a Warriors turnover on the last shot sequence ended any hope of a miracle comeback. "No moral victories. This team needs to realize they are seniors and start playing like it. The cream rises to the top. . .Page is there alone right now. That's not the way it should be."
