12/21/09 - Norwood vs. Brookline
by Administrator on Tuesday 22 December 2009
Brookline traveled to Norwood for an odd Monday night Bay State League match-up, coming away with a 54-37 victory. The Warriors started sluggish again, seeming to battle the effects of not having practiced on Sunday. After taking a small early lead, the two teams heading into the locker room tied at 21-21.
"We weren't playing team basketball," commented the coach. "Sometimes these guys forget they have known each other for years. . .when they think together on the floor, it's fun to watch."
The fun began in the third quarter, when Brookline got it rolling. Sparked by the outstanding play of senior gaurd, Bryson Rainey(15 pts, 4 rebounds), the men in royal blue outscored Norwood 20-6 and took a 14 pt lead into the 4th. Extending the lead to 20 early in the final frame, Brookline milked the clock and took care of the basketball on their way to the final margin.
"For 10 players, this is their final go round. I expect as that reality starts to sink in more and more, we will start playing basketball like we are capable of for 32 minutes. . .and not just 14 minutes."
Other contributors to the victory included stellar defense from Eli Yannekis and Shaq Brummitt, Drew Levey(12pts), Dante Davis(11pts, 6 rebs), Jacob Page(6pts, 2 rebs), Christian Perry(4pts), and Tre Woodson( 5 rebs).
The Warriors(3-1) now move on to play Everett in the Chelsea Christmas Tourney on Monday, December 26th.
